Fortnite vs Mr Beast: Monetization and its Consequences

Fortnite vs Mr Beast: Monetization and its Consequences

As a longtime gamer and avid player of various games, I find myself questioning whether I am being a hypocrite for having conflicting opinions about certain aspects of the gaming industry. One such example is the popular game Fortnite.

In the past, I have spoken about how much I enjoy playing Fortnite, appreciating the game for its unique features. However, I have also criticized it for popularizing the battle pass and item shop, which I believe promote excessive monetization. Despite these reservations, I must admit that Fortnite handles these features quite well compared to many other companies. Unfortunately, its success has also led to numerous other games adopting similar practices, often with more nefarious intentions.

Take the example of 70 Call of Duty games, each introducing battle passes and item shops for content that should ideally be included in the base game. It is disheartening to witness this trend proliferate, further fueling the monetization frenzy.

While I recognize the negative consequences of Fortnite’s influence, I still find myself enjoying the game. It’s a dilemma, much like how I view the rise of Mr Beast on YouTube. Mr Beast has undoubtedly become a prominent figure, shaping the platform’s landscape. However, this significant change has not necessarily been for the better.

With the phenomenon of ‘Mr beastification’ occurring across YouTube, the platform has witnessed an influx of content imitating his style and techniques. This flood of similar content has opened the door for those with more malicious intent to exploit and manipulate the system. Essentially, the existence of Mr Beast has inadvertently paved the way for others to engage in unethical practices.

In conclusion, the key message here is a reminder to not be evil. While I appreciate and enjoy both Fortnite and Mr Beast, it is important to scrutinize the consequences of their influence. As consumers, we can voice our concerns and promote ethical practices within the gaming industry and online platforms. Only then can we hope to mitigate the negative impact and maintain a healthy gaming ecosystem for everyone to enjoy.
